Social Responsibility

On Tuesday 20th February 2024 there was a student-led Bake Sale; which in addition to fundraising efforts by our student, Fardad, helped raise a grand total of £75.30 for Cancer Research UK.

Students showed their support by contributing and buying home-made cakes and cookies, or by just turning up with a smile to say well done for the effort made.

Cancer Research UK are the only charity fighting over 200 types of cancer. There are 17 areas of research you can choose to fund online, from bowel cancer to children’s cancers – or simply where the need is greatest. For every pound received, 81p is available to beat cancer. You can also donate here.

Red Nose Day 2024, in aid of Comic Relief, took place on the 15th March.

This charity event was student-led with red noses being sold at reception for £2 each and awareness raised around the college for contributions.

This year the date coincided with the last day of term before the Easter Break so an epic crossover was born. Every printed red nose token found around the college could be traded in for a chocolate egg.

Red Nose Day strives to fight the impact of poverty, conflict and climate change worldwide. Read more here about what a difference your (and our) donation can make (made).

Wear Red Day ’23

As a college with a strong international student cohort this cause was one we felt was important to raise awareness of.

Show Racism the Red Card (SRtRC) is the UK’s leading anti-racism educational charity. It was established in January 1996, thanks in part to a donation by then Newcastle United goalkeeper Shaka Hislop.

In Newcastle, in the 1990s, Shaka was at a petrol station when he was confronted by a group of young people shouting racist abuse at him. After one of the group realised that they had been shouting at Shaka Hislop, the Newcastle United football player, they came over to ask for an autograph.

To this day SRtRC continues to utilise the high-profile status of football and football players to help tackle racism in society and has also expanded into other sports. The majority of the campaign’s work involves the delivery of educational workshops to young people and adults in schools, workplaces and at events held in football stadiums. Across the UK, SRtRC provides educational sessions to more than 50,000 individuals per year.

May 2022

At the start of the war in Ukraine, we organised a virtual walk to raise money for the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal. With both staff and students participating, we collectively walked nearly 1300 miles and raised over £500! We ended with a group walk along the beautiful Kennet and Avon Canal around Bath where our Principal Tim joined us and supportive parents cheered us on, alongside bringing homemade cakes for the walkers to celebrate at the end.

March 2022

We teamed up with @julianhouseuk to support the Big Bath Sleep Out in March, 2022 by COOKING FOR CHARITY 👨‍🍳. To do this, we had student volunteers help prepare and cook food for the homeless, guided by Chef Olly. The students really enjoyed the cooking experience, creating delicious and healthy casseroles and baking bread from scratch, and the homecooked food was hugely appreciated by all at Julian House.

The Christmas of 2018 we hosted an event where staff and students took part as Student Elves, selling Remembrance Baubles to ‘Dress Dorothy’s Tree‘ in aid of Dorothy House Hospice.

The Honorable Lord Mayor helped us open the event, and with everyone’s help we raised almost £1200!

A young carer misses on average 48 days in the school year due to their caring role. We believe in empowering young carers and supporting them with the tools to succeed in their chosen studies and career. To support young carers, each year we offer a tutorial scholarship to a local student with the help of Young Carers Development Trust. Please watch this video to see a few of our young carers speak about their experiences.

It began with a mini contest of the traditional French game of boules between businesses in and around Queen Square. Then it grew and grew and the annual Bath Boules Tournament has now contributed over £650,000 to local charities in its first 29 years. In the past, the Bath Boules Trust has granted funds to over 70 local charities including: Julian House, Dorothy House, Carers’ Centre, Freewheelers, Mind Bath, Jessie May, The RUH Forever Friends Appeal, Off the Record, National Osteoporosis Society, Genesis Trust, Designability, Age UK, Bath Rugby Foundation, Mentoring Plus, BRLSI, Southside, Three Ways School, First Steps Bath, Action on Hearing Loss, Goldies, Developing Health & Independence, RICE and many more.

Each year we are a sponsor of Bath Boules and look forward to playing in this legendary tournament. In 2019 we were finalists, but alas didn’t win the championship. We are, however, very proud to be a part of this great community event raising money for charity.
