GCSEs

Our GCSE Academic Programme at Bath Academy is designed to ensure students progress onto A-Level or equivalent courses equipped with the academic and language skills required to achieve the best possible grades.

Our GCSE classes are small to give students the optimum chance for personalised tuition in a relaxed, yet structured atmosphere. Teachers set regular tests and homework to ensure that all students reach their full potential.

Our flexible approach means we are often able to help in uniquely difficult or exceptional educational circumstances. Please contact us to discuss your personal situation so we can find the best solution for you.

Small Class Sizes

Our GCSE students are taught in small tutorial groups and have weekly mock examinations under invigilated conditions to monitor their progress against the grades necessary for them to progress to Sixth Form study.

Our small classes are one of our biggest strengths when it comes to studying GCSEs. Students receive more personalised teaching which focuses specifically on the areas where they need improvement.

Formative Assessments

We have a designated study centre for GCSE students where they have supervised study sessions including formative assessments. These assessments provide consistent progress updates, enabling students to focus on their weak areas and improve knowledge and exam techniques in these areas.

Practice Exam Papers are also given at regular intervals to allow students to gain confidence in exam skills and perfect their exam techniques with tutor feedback

Exam Support

Our teachers are highly experienced in exams, with some of them examiners themselves, and provide a solid foundation of exam technique and preparation for students. Our Enrichment Programme holds many exam-focused sessions to help tackle anxiety and create a productive revision plan. Our Exams Officer is on hand to help students and parents with any questions about exams they may have.

GCSE Options

CORE GCSE PROGRAMME

The programme begins in September and is studied over a two-year period. We offer the programme of up to five subjects to students who are aged 14 and over and have not studied GCSEs before.

This broad curriculum ensures that all students of compulsory school age are well prepared for advanced studies both academically and psychologically. Throughout the course the student is also given guidance on their options for further study and future career choices.

INTENSIVE GCSE PROGRAMME

This course is studied over a one-year period and it is intended for students aged 15 and over. It is suitable for:

  • those for whom the two-year programme is not appropriate;
  • those moving school due to illness or family circumstances such as relocation;
  • those needing to retake their GCSEs after disappointing results first time round;
  • those who would like to prepare for GCSE exams after time out of education.

Get in touch for more details on specific courses. You can also apply directly here.

*International students should have an IELTS score of at least 5.0 before starting (with no less than 4.5 in any skill).

What Does Our GCSE Programme Include?

Personalised Guidance

With the help of psychometric assessments, we are able to analyse students’ skills, personality, and interests to help them make informed choices for the future. Each student uses:

  • a CAT4 (Cognitive Abilities Test)
  • the Morrisby Assessment of abilities, personality, and interests with individual career counselling interviews provided with our partnership with FutureSmart Careers.

Personal Tutor

Students have weekly one-to-one mentoring meetings with their Personal Tutor to discuss their academic progress as well as general well-being. These sessions provide the student with support and encouragement, giving them the chance to voice and address issues that may be affecting their academic progress.

Personal Development Programme

GCSE students attend enrichment sessions each week. The aim is to provide students with a variety of support and learning opportunities beyond the classroom to develop academic and life skills. Our Enrichment Programme holds many exam-focused sessions to help tackle anxiety and create productive revision plans. The sessions change each term depending on interest, relevance, and availability, but some examples include Essay Writing and Revision Strategy sessions, volunteer and work experience opportunities, as well as mindfulness sessions.
